The first "big" weekend in 2017 was this past weekend for Jeff Curl Racing. With all the rain an cool weather, the team had only gotten 3 regular nights on the books. Friday night was in Farmer City, IL where a 46 car stout field was on hand for the 47 lap $5000 to win special. Qualifying 16th, it was an uphill battle all evening. The fast track conditions made it tough to pass early in the night. Curl had to run the B-Main, but advanced to the feature event starting 22nd. Battling three and four wide throughout the event with talent like Kenny Wallace and Devin Gilpen, Curl was able to move up to finish a respectable 13th.
Saturday it was on to Jeff's home track in Fairbury, IL. #FALS as known by most social media outlets ran a $2000 to win 30 lap main event. Qualifying 11th overall, the heat race started him 4th and similar to pinball, Curl found himself in all the wrong places getting caught up in multiple cautions. With front end damage, he was able to corral the car back to finish 4th in the heat and transferring him to the main event. Thrashing to fix most of the front end components the team was able to make repairs and adjust the car in time to start 11th in the feature. Curl patiently worked his way up early in the event saving his equipment for a late race charge. Everything was going as planned and on a restart with 11 laps to go, Curl found himself in 4th place. He shot the middle on the restart and blasted into 2nd place pulling away and trying to track down the race leader. Two late cautions with 7 and 6 laps to go force a double file restart and the tires didn't fire as well late. Although dropping to finish 4th, it was another solid night and an overall good weekend. The 4th place finish jumped Curl up to the #FALS track points leader 4 weeks into the season. Curl won the '11 and '13 track championship at the famed 1/4 mile.
