A Successful "Tour"

On Thursday night, the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars where at the LaSalle Speedway with the UMP Modifieds. I was scheduled to attend the UMP Summer National Race at Macon, but at the last minute decided to head north to LaSalle. I started 3rd and ended 3rd in my heat race which locked me into the main event starting 5th. I quickly jumped into 3rd place, but the tacky track surface was tough to pass and I followed Jay Ledford across the finish line for my 9th top 5 of the 2010 racing season.

Saturday night I was back at my home track of Fairbury. I qualified 4th fastest and while tracking down Jeff Leka and Mike Spatola in the "lock 8" heat, I got sideways trying to make the bottom work and fell back to finish 5th where I would start the A-Main. In the Feature I had braking issues that forced me into the middle of the track and I got freight trained on both sides falling back outside the top 10. I rallied back the last few laps to salvage a 10th place finish, but felt my car was a contender without the issue.

Monday night it was off to Spoon River Speedway to follow the UMP Summer Nationals for two days. I started 6th in my heat and used the ultra-high line to move up to finish 2nd. This started me 5th in the feature, but my car was way too tight in the rubber that the latemodels laid down during their feature. I held on to finish 7th.

After a fun evening at the Par-A-Dice Casino, we headed to Peoria Speedway on Tuesday evening. Again I drew a terrible number and had to start 7th in my heat race. I managed to get up to 3rd and made the re-draw, but my lack of drawing talent showed again as I drew a 10 and would start there for the main event. I moved up quickly to the 7th spot in the feature, but hit a wall of cars midway through the race on the bottom of the track. I moved up the track late in the race and lost a few spots, but finished with my 18th top 10 of the 2010 season in 9th place.

We worked on the car Thursday and Friday putting the new body and decals on and getting ready for Fairbury on Saturday night. I posted the fastest lap in qualifying for the 5th time this season at Fairbury. I started 3rd in he heat due to the invert where I finished 3rd. On the initial start of the feature, I got a great jump in the middle of the track and pulled along side Jay Ledford to battle for the lead on lap one. We were side by side as we crossed the stripe for lap one, but a caution in turn 3 made for a complete restart. The outside row got an unfair jump in my opinion on the 2nd start. I was in 4th place entering turn one and although I tracked down the leaders in the middle groove, but the crumbs from the bottom got pushed up into the middle and I faded the last 8 laps to finish 5th.

Next weekend we'll be back at the Farmer City Raceway on Friday night and then at Fairbury on Saturday.
